The Big C is her enemy
It stalks her everywhere she goes
She’s been told it will get her
When that will be
She doesn’t know
She runs and runs
Trying to outsmart it
But it comes from a bad place
Not from her spirit
She’s winning so far
She’s ahead by a mile
Just that thought alone
Is enough to make her smile
She’ll be ready if it shows up
She’ll be sure not to mess up
Her life, as it stands
Full of dreams and plans
So she won’t sit here
And throw up her hands
No matter
Its Disastrous demands
If it’s a fight it wants
Then a fight it will get
Winning will be her goal
On that,
Her heart is firmly set

An intense poem, the short lines and brief phrases made me think of gasping for breath, which works well with the content of the poem. Well done.
