Emotions are the most unreliable of the human instinct – I find. They are fleeting; disappearing into the abyss just as quickly as they arrive. I constantly push them aside… just so I can see clearly. This write is more about negative emotions.
As if walking on quick- sand
or catching the wind as it touches land
-so is making emotion my friendWhat friend blind-folds me
without thought of harmony?
What friend greets me with shackles
then throws back its head and cackles
with no thought for outcomes? What peace can be found
outside myself by having one
so unfaithful act for me?I carress the lips of wisdom
-succumb to her embrace
Only then does the peace
within and without
wear the same face

Oh, I love the friend with shackles who cackles. Gotta love her spirit! And LOVE peace within and without wearing the same face. This is a very cool poem! I love it.

I really that although your poem doesn’t embrace negative emotions at first, it gets to a place where it tells us that we can learn from them, to deal with them, to handle them in a way that keeps them from blinding us… It’s all about balance. About knowing that when are truly being ridden by negative emotions, balance is something that happens to someone else.
Your last stanza is exactly what it says, pure wisdom.

then throws back its head and cackles”….True gems. Peace dwells in such fearless hearts. Love, love these lines.

This is so true. It reminds me of Jeremiah 17:9 which says “The heart is more treacherous (or deceitful) than anything else and is desperate.”
