I believe that people are very much like plants- thriving (or not) according to the nutrients they receive. Even the most hardy of us requires a constant supply of the ‘good stuff’. (I lost my aunt last week and we’re all still in shock- and because grief and resilience live together, I carry on- in the only way I know).
A plant sits in a field
neither thriving nor dying
She-barely bearing fruit
showered constantly by poison rain
until the farmer replants her in fresh soil
-soil filled with the nutrition of love and kindness
showered with encouragement
until she begins to bear fruit
-fruit filled with the nectar of joy
and seeds of future promise
….and it all began by changing soil

Aunts can be such special people! I’m sorry for your loss.
Yes, there are situations when re-planting would be best.

Too often, we expect miracles, without the love and supportive environment to thrive. I hope your aunt, Vivian, was a woman filled with love and nurturing nature to you and your cousins.
May your happy memories fill your heart, whenever you think of her.

I think this is a wonderful legacy to your aunt, and may there be someone else to take up her mantel and be the gardener for you and your cousins… maybe it’s you…

Oh I love Bjorn’s comment. A beautiful poem, Vivian….yes, keep writing. It is how we process grief, and life and loss. We are here to read as you make your way through.

This is a metaphor for life – treat people in a better way, and they will blossom.

A nice e poe. Vivivian. Proper soil could ts a lot, Vivian. In the States we can take a soil sample to our County Extension Agent to have it tested. Then we fertilize or fallow the field.
