‘Tis so easy to take for granted
the shape of a God-given day
-as though days are as promised as
the eternity of the ages
-as though nights can’t morph into
sickness and angst
as though life is an entitled gift
wrapped in days and nights
and tied off with the bow of certainty……..how easily we forget

We are so busy in our lives we tend to take life and good health for granted. We must stop and remind ourselves that it is a gift.

I can’t tell you how much of a gift this poem is to me at this time of my life. The shape of a day can be altered so suddenly! There is no entitlement, just the moment to moment living what is.

So very true. A gift we often take for granted. Well penned! Love the title and the image, the whole thing brings a smile on my face as I anticipate hiking days ahead in the wilderness. 🙂

I adore this poem. It is sort of my mantra – each day a gift, with its blessings. I love your opening lines especially, a strong message, and a beautiful one.

That is so true, Viv. I like the lines:
‘as though life is an entitled gift
wrapped in days and nights
and tied off with the bow of certainty’.

Sighing, am struggling with finding words that does justice, to your poem, Vivian. As my mind seems to be travelling in a thousand different directions, at once. Maybe, this is one of the gifts that life is sharing with me, right now.

Just wait to you get older like this old bloke and then you will realize how precious each day is and cannot be wasted, in fact everyday is just not long enough…or are the poetry prompts coming round too quickly?! However I am sure you know that too, don’t you Vivian.

OK, I’m guilty: I do take my life for granted. Now, what’s the cure? 😉
