“Saw a poem float by just beneath the surface ”
– Jim Harrison, Songs of Unreason
Wait!
Watch with me
for poems that simmer
just beneath the surface of dreams
They surface, but for a moment-
slowly submerge, then vanish
only to resurface
in another poet’s
dream

I love this concept. I’m left wondering if it could be. Nicely written Vivian

Yes Vivian we must keep watch and take hold so that the poems do not end up in another poet’s dreams! Lovely write! ❤

Oooh, like that a lot. Especially the last line. Seems exactly what we are doing. Harrison, each other. Dreaming together.

I think it’s like that… like the poem that took the place of a mountain.

I loved this – it seems at times that if we don’t grab at a poem when it comes to us, it’s gone in a flash and moves on to someone else who will grab it.

I like the idea of this – poems simmering, submerging, and surfacing again in another poet’s dreams. A very creative thought.

You gotta be quick with getting those poems down on paper. Otherwise, someone else will! 😉

Perfectly expressed…..and that is how it happens sometimes….the writer Elizabeth Gilbert also expressed just this idea in her book, Big Magic.

I agree with MMT – how quick our words leave our mind if not written down immediately.
Well done Vivian.

This is so well written and true! I think that often other poems we’ve read become prompts weeks or months down the road as words or phrases resurface in our minds. Sorry i haven’t been commenting lately Vivian. Been having some health issues and trying to catch up. Thanks for understanding.

The appreciation of poets of everyday reckonings can certainly find similar expressions in the works of other poets. This is mainly because poets are sensitive people and they appear to be thinking alike!
