Tell me…
do your thoughts require a leash..and
does your mouth engage your brain…regularly?
When your anger is stirred…. does it
coil itself under your skin…. or fizzle out….quietly?
Do your hopes wake you with the urgency of a fire drill?
……I’m listening

Good point about thoughts needing to be on a leash so the mouth can engage the brain.

a brilliant take on the prompt – sounds like you are checking someone out in advance of a union

Oooo. Anger coiled just under the skin. WOW, do I ever love that. What an incredible description of the feeling.

After reading this, I really felt that I could have told.. As a recovering bipolar addict I go to peer support groups, and that supportive area of people just listening is more than I ever got from 1-on-1 sessions with doctors of different kinds. Also, taught me to listen more. I liked this one a lot!

That second-to-last line surprises me. An unexpected question, but maybe hopes should wake us up from complacency with that much urgency.

Thank you! I was looking for the best way to ask, “are you ambitious?”

I like this. I’m not sure how the poet would react if the answers weren’t to her liking 🙂

Sometimes I have difficulties keeping my anger at bay… but maybe with someone listening to it would fizzle out
