Where is the sense in making
peace with a past that is filled
with the dry bones of death?
Does it make sense to remain
in this land where flesh is no longer
and breath has since departed?
Even the present should be handled wisely
For, it rushes into the past
in a blink of an eye
but is kind enough to offer its
hand to a future
that lies in our core
..coiled around the sleeping form
of potential

I really like the lines about the present rushing “into the past in a blink of an eye.” So true!

I don’t know why but this piece reminds me of the beatles song ‘The Long and Winding Road’. A very thoughtful and creative writeup. Thanks for sharing.

“Even the present should be handled wisely for, it rushes into the past in a blink of an eye,”… this is deeply wise and profound, Viv! 💝

Brilliantly penned with themes of life, death and time. Time escapes us too easily; everything becomes the past if we slip away from the present. Truly, everything indeed becomes the past no matter what.
Potential is our future, thus the only thing that lies ahead. There is hope. These were just my thoughts on this beautiful, stunning piece.

“The present rushes into the past”, today is yesterday’s tomorrow, and today’s tomorrow will deem it yesterday. The passage of time is a befuddlement, is it not! We must take good care of it before it’s gone!

Exquisite imagery, making a powerful argument against lingering in the past. I especially like the visual you create with the future “coiled around the sleeping form of potential.”

Better to learn lessons than to make peace with a ‘past that is filled with the dry bones of death’, and to focus on making the present better:
‘For, it rushes into the past
in a blink of an eye
but is kind enough to offer its
hand to a future’.
It’s up to us.

There is so much wisdom in your words. If only the young at heart would listen and wake the sleeping potential instead of trying to dig up the dry bones of death!
Excellent poem Vivian!

I keep my eyes open for potential, whether it’s the present pointing the way or the past offering solutions.
