This poem takes the first letter of each month from January to December. It’s a prayer to use our voices to right all wrongs in the coming year.
Just because
Freedom is like a
Moth that fears no flames
And liberty’s wings flap
More from
Joyful exuberance than
Just uncaged reality- doesn’t mean that
Anger is curled up
Sleeping while injustice sails
Over the nations as they cry
“No more!” with strong voices of the year
Daring it to raise its head once again

May the strong, angry voices against injustice be heard all year long—everywhere!

What a clever idea, using the first letter of each month . Your poem is a rallying cry for all of us to raise our voices and demand some justice on this befuddled planet. Leaders are supposed to be leading the charge for what is right, not stuffing their pockets and holding themselves above the law. Let’s hope for big changes in 2020.

No, anger is not sleeping. I love your depiction of freedom and joy most of all, though. I agree that the year got darker as it went along–as you show through the months (clever); and I also hope it is true that we got stronger too. Thank you for this poem.

Clever form! May people yet dare cry for “Freedom” and bravely accept the responsibility that comes with it.

I like the idea of using the month’s letters and to use a dove for your inspiring picture. A symbol of peace is needed. Thank you
