“If wishes were horses, beggars would ride”
Nursery rhyme

Eyes flicker – on waking
to a world basking in truth
and humility
The toast doesn’t burn
The washing machine has defeated death
The house preens and sparkles
The kids bring me breakfast in bed and all homework is done
The news on TV is of cat rescues
and philanthropic millionaires building
homes for the homeless
Between silver-lined clouds- the horses fly
Traffic lights turn green – only for me
as I pass beggars in their latest rides
while a courageous world refuses to fail us all
