I search for truth
on passing faces
and in graveyards
but find it
within prison walls
I search for hope
etched in tea leaves
but find it
in abundance
clogging hospital walls
I search for love
hidden beneath words
or perched on lips
but find it wearing
a cloak of silence
..waiting within me

There are people who think it’s for sale, and if they can’t buy it, it’s not worth having.

I like the reverse psychology of this poem, Viv. The search for truth, hope and love among all the invasive lies is a difficult one.

This is one of those poems that also works rather brilliantly when read from bottom to top. I also like that it’s subtly a villanelle.
