Leave your heart in its cage of bones
for were it not
-we’d hear your groans
Don’t hang your heart
up as art
-it would be discerned and taken apart
Keep your heart in your chest
for were it not
-you’d have no rest

I like the image of /a cage of bones/. And I was ready for the limerick-like levity.

Such a striking opening image to this quadrille, Viv! ❤️ Indeed, if only the heart understood.

The rhythm is smooth. “Don’t hang your heart up as art.” is a line that sticks out for me. There are limits and boundaries that the heart shouldn’t cross.

I think it’s best to protect that heart as it is a fragile piece of art.

I agree with Sarah about the whisper of Halloween and I love the image of the heart in its cage of bones. I also like the rhyming of ‘heart’ and ‘art’, foregrounding the message in your quadrille, Viv – wise advice.
