You sit on your throne
surrounded by admirers
who hang onto every droplet of
spit from your mouth
…..unaware
of the poison in them
They drink greedily
-as you slowly kill
them with your lies
They die bowing to you
-yet you don’t spare a glance
I stand on the truth
-standing on the truth is the best place to stand
…but it isn’t the easiest
Your followers come from all sides
convinced your lies
are truths
I resist…..
I try to show them ….but they are blind
and unwilling
to learn
of your true nature
Although I may die
at least I can say I died free

I read this one while clenching my teeth and growling. There is something about the tone of the speaker that says rage and frustration, in the beginning. Then there is growth, and by the end… we learn–like the speaker has–that we don’t have to scream or rage to be seen for what we are and respected, but sometimes (most times, even) we do have to fight.

We will all die, but there is a profound and precious dignity in being able to die free. Would that other human beings allow others the grace to live freely too.

In light of the current state of our country, I could not help but think of Trump and all his lies, and yet there are those that still follow and drink his poisoned words. Well done Vivian.

Oh the menace of that demon with his minion around him… dying free is sometimes the only option left.

Yes, truth can be rocky ground, but it is the best place to plant your feet.
