When I sit with you
under an oak tree
that is preoccupied with
tending its errant leaves
-I enjoy our companionable
silence that doesn’t shy
away from breath between words
It is a silence that is content
to remain pregnant- forever
It is an unspoken state of being
that cares not what others think
It is a communion etched in stretched moments that flow like rivers
…that space of breath between words

A wonderful write, Viv, so calm and contented. I love the idea that the oak tree is too ‘preoccupied with tending its errant leaves’ to pay attention to the loving relationship just being in the pregnant silence.

“silence that is content / to remain pregnant- forever” That is a powerful image. I can see it, that silence… needing nothing but itself (or what it chooses to accept).

A beautiful expression of that connectedness that two people can share and which requires no words. “It is a communion etched in stretched moments that flow like rivers” … beautiful … really, a splendid line of poetry.

That beautiful silence of contentment between partners is a confident affirmation of their love, they need no words when love is their link. Beautifully written Vivian.
