If water had a shape
would it be as calm as a lake
or possess the muscles of the ocean? If water had a voice
would it gurgle with glee
or roar as it cascades off rocks? If water had a destination
it would push past barriers
and penetrate mountains?I’ve never known water to
back away or cowerHow do I know this?
I know water
for I am water
(when I’m brave)

A wonderful water portrait, Viv! The repetition of questions is so effective, giving alternatives that seem to contain it when we know there is so much more, from a small drop to a waterfall, a trickle or a giggle to a crash. I love the ending!

It’s no wonder we have this affinity with water, for they say we are 90% water…

Water and humans have a lot in common… we better use the benign properties… but I guess water cannot be controlled or kept, just like a free human being.

We are water literally and figuratively. I love how you lead us to our choice in how to use this element within us.

I love the way you have characterized water and also used it has a metaphor to the way we humans are! We can learn a few things from water.

Water is miraculous with its many moods and magical properties. It’s power is terrifying. I m not surprised the ancients worshipped it as a divinity.

Water in it’s many forms has been used and abused by mankind for thousands of years. We don’t deserve it and we surely don’t want it turn away from us, for we’d be done for and the water would just gurgle with laughter. What a great poem this is Vivian,

The first stanza made me think of Gillermo del Toro’s movie, of course–so much magic (and fluid metaphors) in the shape of water. And the lest stanza made grin an excited, “Yes!”
