There was a time when, if I dropped something, I’d pick it up without a second thought. Nowadays, when that happens, I yell for the kids (all the way upstairs or across town) to come pick it up!
My yester years were filled with life’s wonders
like tying up shoelaces without ire
and tackling life with zeal and fire
while youth hides most fears and all its pondersMy latter years are filled with more wonders
such as eschewing laces for slippers
while stiffened fingers fumble with zippers
and creaky knees avoid falls and blunders

It is more convenient not to have laces on shoes, unless they are hiking or work boots. I feel ready for those years with even “more wonders”.

I feel you! I just turned 75, and you have described my days.

Getting old certainly has its drawbacks. Nicely done.

Yup! I’m maybe not old yet, but I’m not as spry as I once was!

Like the punchline says, “The Golden years can kiss my ass…” 😉
Wonderfully written, Vivian!

I can relate to this, after 2 car accidents, carpal tunnel, arthritis, several fractures, and a shoulder injury from trying to pull a wheelchair out of the mud. I often hear I’m too young for the symptoms, but that doesn’t make it easier. Enjoyed your poem. 🙂

I know how you feel, smiles. Now I go on easy and just buy trainers or shoes without laces.
