The above image is from The New Yorker with the caption : “A few of us are going out after work to pretend it’s not the end of the world, if you want to join us.”
Do you remember the days before the internet?
When catastrophes were so very far away
and mental pictures were the mainstay?
Not so much today-with mouse clicks and endless tweets

Oh yes, I do remember the days before the internet! Slower, less threatening and frantic. I love the phrase ‘a shrinking world in the palm of our hands’. I feel for that ‘disintegrating world trying its best not to end’.

I think we do hold a bit of the world in our hands each day. At the touch of a screen we can see what is going on in so many places. The world is trying to survive along with the dreamers of hope.

Oh, how I remember… You know, not so long ago someone told me that blogging is now for old people, that it doesn’t move fast enough. Reading your poem makes me wonder if I’m just trying to keep my world from changing into something that I can no longer recognize.

Ah, well said. We hold it all in the palm of our hands. We can’t seem to put it down.

No, it is far from easy to watch our home being destroyed. But we still have a voice that must be raised. Thank you for your directness about a dying world that we hold in our hands.

I was just talking to my sister about this the other day. You have captured it in so few words. And yes, it is quite an unsettling reality.

Some days I just have to turn off the WiFi and use my laptop solely as a word processor. It’s a way to find sanity in a world that seems bent on going insane.

Sadly the world can only do so much but combatting the idiot mankind species is a problem and sadly only they can stop the rot. With the Polar icecaps melting I think stopping mining fossil fuels and destroying the forests might help.

If we were trying to prevent the world from ending we would be addressing problems of pollution waste and toxic substances released into the atmosphere. The question is… if a species is so stupid it knowingly brings about its own destruction…does it deserve to survive?

Seems to me the world was always going to end. Only today’s consciousness is different. (with the environment ruin tears)I grew up with the end world poke from church and Sunday school attendance. And the comic books made me stop and think in that direction too
Have a nice week Vivian
