the scorching passion of a thousand flaming suns
can’t propel me to where my first sorry tale was spun
where bucking wild horses failed to meet my eyeand deeply buried secrets-under wraps just lie
where an impassable gulf is between my present and past
and my future is certain-as the die has been cast

And here thought, having lived 6 years in Texas, that “The Gulf” would be about sailboats and beaches. Or maybe gas stations. So, imagine my surprise. I don’t think, though, that a future is pre-ordained. As the noted philosopher Kiki Dee has observed, “Something gets in my way, I go round iot.” Gawd i am such a simpleton! But yeah, I believe in pop songs sometimes.

The future is cast.. I have found the very opposite of what I expect to happen happens!

I don’t think the future is preordained. I believe that we make our own future, for goid or evil. Good write

Nah, don’t listen to them. I like to think that die is cast for you, even if by choice, and that ‘first sorry tale’ the initial step on the path from which there is no turning back. Anyway, you ride well now – and look, the horse has wings.

Lol! Thanks Rosemary! I find it interesting to see the reactions my poem elicited. I,too, believe the die is cast- although I’m not privy to the details of my future -and must navigate blindly. Having said that- it’s interesting to hear others’ take on their futures.

The future may be cast, but I wish I had more hints of what it will be. Or maybe I don’t. 🙂

The future may already be cast, but a hint or two would be nice…or maybe not 🙂
