Unmet expectations are the root
of discord
we envy from afar those things
we cannot afford
-comparing the inside of us
to the outside of you
The twain shall never meet
-such things- better left- unexplored

Yeah, playing that game just ends up making people sad. Best to take up a better hobbie.

It’s quite true. Everyone should be humble and satisfied with what he already has

The older I get, the more I see how tremendously destructive celebrity culture is. It’s also based on lies.

This makes me think of a recent conversation with an affluent woman who was full of complaints about her life of luxury and my own sheer delight in four dollars worth of pansies on my modest deck……….and our two very differing perspectives on life and happiness. Wise advise in your poem. Smiles.

Very true poem. I am happy with my $8 sneakers. My mother-in-law has to have $200 celebrity brand. Go figure.

You have the right of it I think. Telling the truth about ourselves and being ourselves is almost an impossibility when wrapped up in our social media world. In the 50’s social media was the rumor mill, and it was not any kinder. Great point and well written!!!

The root of many problems… envying that which we can’t afford. I think that’s why I stopped going to malls! Of course now they are on life support

Oh the compare game catches us all at times. Wise words to remind us to avoid it.
