There’s a tragedy in not being able to control one’s thoughts or emotions. I learned this at an early age from my father. He was a man of few words and wouldn’t act on a decision until an argument had proved itself in his mind. I find I have similar traits and try to practice this whenever I can (emergencies excluded- of course!).
The result is exceeding patience and important decisions made well after ‘the sell-by date’- if being judged by the general public. Underpinning this is a scripture that’s haunted me for decades : 2 Corinthians 10:5
“We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,….”
So, I may seem slow on the uptake sometimes….but that’s only because I’m busy corralling my thoughts.
There was a time when thoughts
were free to run wild
-they had no discipline and simply
invaded the mind
But they have a slave master now
-one who examines every machination
before making a determination
of what remains
and what ..to God… must bow

It was good to read the background to your poem.. In my experience I have found it better to express my emotions than internalize them but everyone must figure out what works best for them. A poem for thought, indeed.
