Words strut and prance
dressed up in metaphors
engaged in a dance
keeping confessions safe
keeping them obscure
Between cloaked smoke
and daggered mirrors
said words are hidden
-of that I’m sure

I love the way you characterized words. Picturing them strutting and prancing makes me smile. Words – where would we be without them?

I thought words were only hidden when the poet is desperately searching for them. My rhyming dictionary is getting a bit worn from overuse!

They sometimes prance across the page. Hide but want to be found. Sometimes what’s not said says the most.

What a lovely arrow shaped poem, Viv. I am so gratified that you have used my word list so faithfully. It has been a wonderful journey for me to read your poems every day. I am taking the day off from Instagram but I will catch up with my comments there tomorrow.

Metaphors are the best dancers–sharp and hidden, but always allowing us to watch and feel.

“cloaked smoke” and “daggered mirrors” — this is noir waltzing and winking in poetry. Very cool.

Some awesome layers and intrigue in this eloquently formed piece. Nicely constructed … wonderfully rendered.

Those dancers are magicians too, showing the audience what they think might be a reflection of themselves when it is actually a shiny piece of the poet’s soul.

I like the ‘cloaked smoke’ and ‘daggered mirrors’; and the ‘strut and prance’ had me immediately visualise Antonio Banderas’s dashing Puss in Boots. Lovely fun altogether ,,, masking a serious message.
