There’s a rumour going around that
there’s a time for this
and a time for that
I hope that when I catch up
they’d have added
a time to smell the coffee or
a time to remove rose-tinted glasses
or even a time for a cocktail of love and kindness
Maybe I’m just too cynical
Maybe I haven’t been loved before
Maybe I should just recite these words:
‘A time to keep silence, and a time to speak’Maybe

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
To every thing there is a season,
and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate;
A time of war, and a time of peace.

The tone of disappointment here centers in the lack of time, and yet “maybe” the narrator can change that reality? There truly isn’t much time, and yet there’s all the time in the world. Beautifully done.

I have to maintain a diplomatic silence often, in this topsy turvy world. A cocktail of live and kindness sounds good to me!

“a time for a cocktail of love and kindness” sounds wonderful to me. It’s all in the timing, as you call it. Perhaps if we put some time aside for love and kindness amid all that we do, we may find some peace. I can understand the cynicism.

There should always be time to smell the coffee. I like your parade of pauses here.

” a time for a cocktail of love and kindness” — really like this line! Pour me a glass of that please 🙂
Interesting you include the word “cynical” here …. I was just writing a short story that must have that word in its first line. So I looked it up because I wasn’t certain about the difference between being pessimistic and being cynical. Quite interesting to see.

But you are one of the lucky ones you have time to write as well as have that cup of coffee.

I like the strong voice in this poem and the opening lines. Only time will tell if the maybes will come true.

“or even a time for a cocktail of love and kindness”…The word ‘even’ does a great job here. I like that sarcastic tone. “Maybe I’m just too cynical”….Not at all 🙂
