I’ve been pondering the concept of Truth …during my existential musings (as you do), and wonder how you would be able to tell the difference between a truth and a falsehood. And then I thought, we generally don’t care about the truth (just the show)…unless we truly care (about the truth). This sounds so cryptic….I hope it makes sense, when I return to re-read it in a year’s time. Otherwise, here are my thoughts (poetically-speaking).
You try to walk past
pretending you don’t notice
But in true rubber- necking style
you notice her on the pathway
She sits there- legs akimbo
-her nakedness and shame on display
-a feast for the eyes of the worldHer name is Truth
And you might quite agree with this
-for surely, a Lie would hide her shame
and even look the picture of innocence
-oft times playing the victim
and begging for sympathy
They are very different- these two creatures
-one persisting in a raw painful silence that never changes
-the other dressed in chameleon skins while fighting exposureIs it ever simple to tell which is which?

Maybe it all boils down how much you stain to gain from your lies…
to me a falsehood is always a lie, but not all lies are falsehoods.

Got me thinking. The truth in all its honesty. The false is the wolf in lamb’s clothing.

I used to think it was simple to tell the difference between truth and lies. No longer in these times. Lies no longer hide their shame but present themselves with honor. We really have to learn to discern.

It’s hard to tell these days. I’ve seen lies bandied about with sanctimonious pride and glory. We know we’re in trouble when we can’t tell which is which….because shame has departed.

Hmmm … but surely not all truths are shameful?

Absolutely not.Maybe unabashed might be a better term. Either way, they’re stark and raw (whether good or bad).

I wonder what human fool it was to think that it was wrong to expose everything when every other creature on Earth doesn’t have this paranoic obsession. My wife and I accidently walked on to a nudist beach once and felt such shame that we had covered everything up!

I am smiling at Old Egg’s comment. This is an interesting perspective on lies and truth……..the topic of the hour, given the insanity on the daily news.

It takes work to discern the truth. Many people are allergic to work.

I know, what we need to do is keep on telling the truth, and not bother what others are doing.

I wonder why truth should feel shame. There should be no shame in being exactly who and what one is. Interesting food for thought…

I’m thinking that I wrote this wrong. I was trying to convey how truth exposes itself. My muse was multitasking that day. 😲

I have these existential questions about truth, as many do. You write so well about it. Your poem seems especially important in this world political climate where many are not striving for truth, but rather, to distort it.

Nicely done. I believe most things people tell me but I don’t look at that as a bad thing, says more about my nature than theirs I guess
