I’ve likened the ‘game’ of Love to a game of Monopoly. I used to play it for hours with my brothers -in my younger years.
Phrases like “GO TO JAIL: Go directly to Jail. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200” used to ramp up the thrill of the game.
Pablo Neruda’s poems are sublime and I just couldn’t resist combining these 2 delights of mine! (Maybe I ought to have called it ‘the death of love’!)
“…if you stop loving me little by little -I shall stop loving you little by little.”
~ Pablo Neruda
If you forget me
I’ll try to survive
I’ll still stay alive
I will not go to jail
If I forget you
I know you’ll still thrive
but you won’t pass Go
and you may (or may not) feel low
If we forget each other
the jail of uncertainty is certain
neither will we collect our 200
because it’ll be GAME OVER

Ooh, quite an interesting way of going about it — using Monopoly as a device in this “game” is indeed very clever.

Loved it! It has been a year or two since I played, trouble is grandkids have got the heads glued to their iPhones these days!

the monopoly of love – there are undertones of board/bored here so keep throwing the dice

Love it… but if I remember correctly Monopoly usually ends with the winner takes it all…

Yes, even if we are forgotten there is life beyond the memory.

When we were kids, we had to say outside. We played card games on the porch… Monopoly Can’t tell you how many times that board was flipped before it ended – it is a long game and when it hits 90 degrees, tempers flare 🙂

We seem to have dipped our inks in the same well for this one–in our choice of quotes and in the way we looked at forgetting, when it comes to love. Lovers who forget each other might hurt (or not), but survival (even happiness) is definitely something that can be obtained. And yes, Game Over will come (for the love that once was).
