Rooting around in the basement of the mind brings nothing but
misery and pain
Buried under old wounds lie bitterness, envy, malice and red rage
Stop!
Resist!
Summon the elevator of your mind and rise ….and rise
above that cemetery of woes
-letting light flood through the windows of your soul
where all thoughts that are beautiful, pure, noble, encouraging and worthy of praise live in harmony
It is here one must dwell
the mind- devoid of protective barriers
the wails from below becoming quieter and quieter
as your lips part in perfect laughter

I like the idea of rising above one’s cemetery of woes! That elevator is a powerful image.

Resisting one’s worser nature is never as fun as indulging it, but who needs indulged poems? They never result in ‘perfect laughter …’ Great response to the challenge!

Yes the down far below there is too dark… may we all be able to rise despite the darkness below.

Your call to rise resonates with me. I’ve been down there in the basement much too long. Thanks!

What a world we have created to allow even poets to weep at the changes in their lands of birth. How investors rub their hands in glee at peoples misery with them profiting from armaments manufacture, from discord with moving populations and fear in childrens eyes. Meanwhile politicians strut and rave and feather their own nests.

“Rise above envy and malice” is not a new thought, but this poem makes it fresh, not preachy. I like it.
