As I was saying……
It’s not in people-pleasing
or serving everyone but meIt’s not in proving myself
while cheating myself
out of love of selfBut it’s in the sweet melody
of the ink in my veins
pouring from fingertipsas it jigsaws words on paper
translating the cries and
the sighs of my soul

The second stanza is pure brilliance. A truth that once known and embraced can keep us from a lot of hurt. Too many people forget about the importance of honestly loving themselves, fall into the trap of loving others first… not quite remembering that if a soul and body isn’t pleased, pleasing others might not even be a choice. Or, at least, it won’t be a choice for long. We must find ways to celebrate us before we can learn to cheer for another.

Absolutely Magaly! We’re of more value to others only when we value ourselves. Great prompt 👍🏽

Your words are powerful! Leaving self care out of our daily lives IS cheating ourselves. I have never thought of it that way, but it is so true. I am so guilty of this! Thank you for the eye opener!

The beauty of “losing oneself” in that river of words…another thing I have not allowed myself of late. Beautiful piece XXX

There’s power in learning to honor oneself. Those word puzzles come together better when we tap into it.

Poetry has a way of expressing ones feelings to be on paper. Possible perhaps with the help of emotions!

The opening is so intimate, casual and conversational, as if you’re picking up where you left off and I am your only audience, Viv. Your poem is so personal and yet so universally true. I especially love the lines:
‘…it’s in the sweet melody
of the ink in my veins
pouring from fingertips
as it jigsaws words on paper’.

I think this says it all when it comes to an introduction of self. The love of words and their ink makes it prudent to be one with this melody.
