“A violent windstorm the night before the solstice
Jim Harrison Solstice Litany
What quarrel has the moon with the sun?
What angst has the wind with the ocean?
What battle has the land with the sea?
We don’t know the conversations
that take place beyond the ozone layer
but we saw that windstorm the night before solstice
and we know that seasons change…don’t we?

Nicely done. I like the hint of personification, and the final question hanging in the air. it also made me think of the way children pick up arguments between parents even when the actual argument is hidden from them. We are more sensitive than we realise.

Vivian this is just brilliance!!! My hat is off to you! I love how the way you wrote this leaves the impossibility for anyone to argue with it! You outdid yourself! (clapping hands) ❤

Provacative! I really like the first line, like battling gods in the sky, creating the tempests down below.

the tempestuous nature of nature so succinctly put in words – these lines have such impact:

We certainly know they change. And sometimes, they get moody. So, perhaps, they quarrel too.

It is good to contemplate the conversations beyond the ozone layer, given we are at the mercy of its shifting energies. Loved this poem.

Yes, seasons change, whether we like it or not. I like the beginning, like the old gods of Ocean, like the storms I remember as a child. Well done.
