“Love is raw as freshly cut meat,
mean as a beetle on the track of dung”
~ Jim Harrison from Songs of Unreason
..and I recall the day we got stuck
in that elevator…all those years ago
For awhile, we were the last ones on earth
We talked for hours
peeling away layers
until we reached our cores
That’s when we knew our love was raw
as we held in our hands
(to accept and cherish)
each others’ flaws

I love a poem that starts with ‘and’ – it demands of us to question everything. Holding one another’s flaw in our hands – great line! That is the vulnerable sticking point in trust, isn’t it? This poem is a stand-out for you this month, Vivian!

love the contrast of being stuck mid-air and the grounding sense of last people on earth – besides its a lovely vignette of love without the the schmaltz – not easy to write but you managed it so well

Beautiful, Vivian. I love the image of time stopping in the stopped elevator and finding the rawness of love there.
(Did this really happen? Sorry, I am over curious about everyone.)

A totally true feel in the vignette. It says much; implies more (or maybe it doesn’t). I love the ambiguity of poetry. We are allowed to fill in as much or as little as we’d like. Very nicely written!

Beautiful Vivian. Although being stuck in an elevator would bring out the crazy in me. I struggle with feeling trapped, with no way out. Well done!

Yes, we need to be raw and open to each other, accept those cuts and accept those cuts and flaws!
