“I’ve spent a lifetime
trying to learn the language of the dead”
~ Jim Harrison from Sister in Songs of Unreason
Never your voice in my head
but your whispering in my spirit
Never a thesaurus to decipher
the rustle of leaves in winter’s death
You never left me lonely
through my tears and despair
It’s taken me awhile
to know that you’re ever near
and I’ve never wondered the language
of your love and tender care

I like this. I like its construction, and the way it says what it says in such elegant language.
ps–I did what you did. I got so caught up in Hedge’s poem and commenting on it that I nearly forgot my own link! *smax forehead*

Thanks Shay!
It’s no surprise about J’s poem… there was so much in there….., mesmerising.
I totally forgot why I was there in the first place!😀

This is perfection! Personal, yet not overly poignant. Just right!

Laughing at you and Shay almost forgetting your links–I truly appreciate the compliment, ladies. This is a well-wrought little gem, Vivian–I also like the use of repetition–all the nevers–and the way the poem glows with a faith in love that transcends within each line. Thanks so much for playing today, and please have a kickass weekend.

Your words are a credit to you, J! I was Dracula’s bride for awhile at work today. I don’t get to go on such exotic trips often….. and for that, I thank you😁.
I appreciate your comments- glad you liked it! Enjoy your weekend too!

This is so finely structured. I didn’t see till after that it’s a poem of 55 words. I particularly liked: “Never a thesaurus to decipher
the rustle of leaves in winter’s death” and the way you play with never and ever. Lovely!

Some great things take a while to show their faces, or for us to know them… But when we do… Oh, what delight!
