“The hardest part is when the river
is too swift and goes underground for days on end”
~Jim Harrison from Songs of Unreason
Life flows in moments
-rising at dawn, ebbing at sunset
There are those in our dreams
-forming snapshots made perfect
We live for meaningful moments
that fall like rain
We want to know what is purpose
-is it balanced pleasure or learned pain?
We herd them together
wanting to relive good old moments again
Purpose hides itself in the sediment
as rivers of moments slip ever so swiftly
into the past
You can’t keep a moment, so learn your purpose fast
Good ,bad, joyful or swollen with despair
-each moment-there to comfort and teach
but never to last

We must learn from each moment… it might not last, but it will take us a bit further

That is certainly true and described in an original way. Thank you Vivian–it’s a good reminder, and wonderful to have been made so tangible in the river imagery. k.

You have beautifully depicted the oft-stated truth that no one can stand in the same spot on a river, ever. Very nice!

Rivers surge and ebb, flood and drain – they really do imitate life – constantly change, and yet many have been there forever in one form or another. 🙂
