Why, oh why do we persist
on poems that love insists?
I tire of ‘whispering names’
on the edge of ‘soaring winds’
Or ‘gentle sighs of the heart’
at the mention of ‘names’
There is this harsh reality
-that love needs financial security
(lust is another matter entirely)
Taking care of ‘bizness’
should begin with bank statements
If you think I’m being hard
-think of the speed with which
love dies
-the minute cash grows wings
….and flies
(Just saying!)

Love and lust and the rest are well and all, but… yep, a body needs to eat.
By the way, that song will stay in my head all day. I hope you are pleased.

Spoken like someone who has had enough romance to last a lifetime–unless it returns with its business in order.
Great song.

Maybe that is where the “pre-nup” came from? Got to take care of the bottom line.

Our attitude towards money starts very early. If you had limited pocket money as a child you probably knew that had to last the week and no more but if it was given freely according to your desires you would probably spend it rashly when you were managing your own affairs. Luckily when married we had a joint account for general expenditure and each had a personal account for our individual needs. That worked very well.

My stepfather used to say, ‘When money comes in the door, love goes out the window.’ He explained that the saying meant ‘money worries’. He also used to say, ‘Don’t marry for money, but go where money is.’ (However I didn’t listen – and luckily was happiest when poorest.)
