When you write – don’t stop
to polish your words to perfection
-to rinse each letter in
the detergent of eloquence
-to bury the truth
under a bouquet of lines
Rather, write from the heart
Words from here are already pure
-they glisten with sincerity
-aren’t always pretty
but the reader recognises them
because they resonate as they move
landing ever so gently
in that space between thoughts
For there, they gain full meaning
as they tug at your soul

Good advice-I want to hang this up on my fridge! And you have the best tags, I just started copying them, how did you find out about all these poetry hashtags!

Thank you for your kind words. I just tag my poem with as many words that seem relevant…I never know if it’s of any use! 🙂

How right you are Vivian, always express your thoughts yourself and make it feel true using your own experiences to let it be so.

Good advice and interesting metaphors, Viv! I love:
‘to rinse each letter in
the detergent of eloquence’
and
‘…they resonate as they move
landing ever so gently
in that space between thoughts’.

Beautifully written! Great advice… I used to always write a poem and then change half of the words using a thesaurus, but now I’ve started to stick to the words that come out of my mind originally, and I’ve noticed that my poems flow much better now.

Ha…and today I did exactly the opposite… took a poem and polished and polished… but yes I agree we have to write from the heart.

Poetry from the heart- so true Vivian. Ultimately, we write for ourselves- sometimes how we perceive the world, others what we wish and yearn for. Either way, a win.
