You get but one life
Don’t let life hammer you
to gird your loins with fire
into blind acceptance
You get but one chance
Question everything
to catch that pendulum swing
Don’t be mesmerised by ‘things’
as you smooth that perfect dream
they have nothing more to add

(#Contrapuntal Poetry- 2 poems intertwined)
Today Paul wants us to write contrapuntal poetry at dVerse. This is a poem that should be possible to read in three ways. Both poems are mine and can be read separately. There’s added meaning when intertwined.

Fantastic Vivian. What a message these three deliver collectively.

This is very strong. I’d quite like this on a postcard, it’s such a great message, and so well constructed.

Oh Vivian…..first, I love how you placed the words here….line by line, every other bold to insure the reading of the three “melody lines.” The message in each of the three is so well done. I most especially like the line “to catch that pendulum swing” — for me, the pendulum is a monotonous thing, going back and forth, back and forth….and to catch it is to stop it. To treasure that moment….then perhaps let it swing again….to interrup the continual rhythm to appreciate a moment…to make that moment a special stop in the swing. I loved this! 🙂

Opportunity knocks but once. It is lost if not recorded immediately in that little book carried around. Small habits go a long way. Very true Vivian!

This is like a “rallying” cry – to urge one to keep true to the path of oneself, yet remain neither above nor below the other – but certainly not mindlessly “middle of the road” …. interesting play with the form Viv – it works like both an out and inner voice …. well done.
