Where have all the heroes gone?
-the ones with the tiny voices
-the ones that live in our heads
You know what I mean…
-the ones that say people are more
precious than guns
-that loving your neighbour is cool
-that young men knifing each other
should be stopped …..NOW.
-that compassion in the norm
that-watching-a-school-shooting- followed-by-a-royal wedding
shouldn’t be done while drinking the same cup of tea
(sans breaking stride-as it were)
Where have all the heroes gone?
-those fail-safe voices of wisdom buried in our heads?

I agree Vivian, where has all the heroes gone. America is supposed to be strong. So much violence, and troubled times today, we will pray for peace, love, and harmony. Happy writing.

Amen, Vivian – I wonder if the real heroes have all been overshadowed by oversized fantasies. And we should never watch a shooting and a wedding on the same cup of tea.

Oh Vivian I cannot help but cry bucket reading your words…..I keep asking these questions….what has happened? How can we call them back? Perhaps calling them back inside of us as we may have to be the heroes and hero voices for a time. And you used the perfect song to accompany your poem.

Wow, this is excellent. So true…we watch such a great tragedy and then the royal wedding, hardly batting an eye. We really need to find some heroes (in government…sigh) to turn the tide. Me thinks, sadly, it will be a while in coming. “Thoughts and prayers” is their only answer.

Well done! Well written.
We all know the answer. But, it seems we have to keep asking ourselves the question; until we say “Duh!” and jump into the flow of non violence’s current of understanding.

I think they are still around, pumping the fists in the air, screaming “No!” to injustice, doing all they can to remind others and themselves that the times can’t afford small voices or failed heroes… they write poetry, too.

Sadly everything has been taken over by greed and the encouragement of need of the new, the different, with the feeling that a good life can only achieved by more. I speak to you later consumer. As for guns…thank heavens I live in Australia.

This is brilliant and I feel the same way but you expressed calmly; I am more angry. No, I am furious that I live in a country where people right to own a gun take precedence over the lives of school children. Thank you for this. Do you mind if I reblog it?
