Were it not for this teflon
-these confines of my skin,
I would be like a firecracker
bursting out from within
I comport myself for social decorum’s sake
and stroll through life
whistling whatever tune my lips make
-Very carefully
peeling back layers of me
trying not to resent my skin
for keeping me in

Hedge 55– a poem in 55 words

This is quite sparkling in its insight, and I can feel the resentment of what holds us back, something in our very physical selves as well as our minds/the outside world…I love the image, too, which lights the way for the opening lines, each one cracking good, and also “whatever tune my lips make..’ is a keeper as well. Thanks so much for bringing your fireworks to the 55, Vivian, and have a kickass weekend.

Lol! Thank you! I’ve read yours and it’s pretty good. I’m heading back to finish reading your rant on America and shootings.

Oops- meant in a positive way. Words charged by strong feelings..especially of injustice. I’ve had mine today called “Where Are The Heroes?”

I was in a bad mood and I am sorry if it came across as short. It wasn’t very nice; I’m sorry. I will check out your blog now. I hope you continue to follow me

This makes me think of Katie Perry’s song “Firework.” I think all creative people must feel like they’ve got TNT in their handbag. Act normal! 😀

This is beautiful! Oh how often our own bodies and social expectations feel like confinement.

I think creatives suffer this the most. Thanks for stopping by 😊

This is a just waiting to burst at the seams poem… that tension prefect, the skin of a smile keeping it all in, holding it (for whatever it may entail, emotionally) all tight …. yet whistling a tune, apropos for decorum … all that …. but ever carefully, yet slightly resentful too. It’s an interesting playing of juxtapositions …all in 55! And it’s a great image to compliment!
