It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting
It begins with peeling away layers of debris
-with ascribing a true value to that which we call ‘self’
before looking for that partner that will stand by us in this life
-for only then will a union flame with fire
and only then will the universe recognise this power
When possibility becomes reality
we accept the love we think we deserve

Amaya hosts dVerse with the task to select two quotes from two different books, could be poetry, prose, technical, non-fiction, anything. Then, construct a poem using one quote as the opening line and the other as the closing line.
“It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.” The Alchemist by Paul Coelho
“We accept the love we think we deserve.” The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

It’s so interesting to see the different types of books we have on our shelves. Two great quotes, Viv, and I love what you have done to weave them together.

I like how the layers of debris have to be removed first.

Your second chosen quote really has me thinking. I don’t know I would have ever come to that conclusion, but I seriously consider other people’s truths. (Because I know how much suffering one has to endure to usually arrive there.) I want to contemplate more on Chbosky’s truth and in the meantime I thank you for your contribution, Vivian!

So well done Vivian. How can we know others if we don’t know our true self?

I can agree with you that when the self is neglected, hidden suppressed, subsumed, the basis for an honest partnership is shaky. Oh how I which I had better known and accepted myself back in the day, would have been so much less painful for those I love. I imagine most of us can relate to a degree to this lament, which causes me to frame your lovely poem as a portrait of the ideal, in the meantime, I still have a lot of debris to work on, gonna try to keep on scrubbin’ (and flossing to – looking for brownie points there hehe).

Thanks, Lona! I can’t say much on the scrubbing – but to be the epitome of perfection, flossing after each meal will get you there (lol). Thank you for your comments- dealing with ‘self’ is the hardest thing.

Wonderful read. “we accept the love we think we deserve” is a great line. We have a book in common.

Brilliant read….every line…as always.
Love the picture.
What are the odds that we would use same image on the same day? Something is in the air these days.

Your poem changed that final quote for me, from defeat to strength. Nice work.
