Dark thoughts carried
on the wings of melancholia
try to worm their way
within dreamless sleepThey are beaten back
by the arrival of the unicorn
It gives her comfort
as it weaves its magicStrong limbs remind her
of inner strength
Angel wings flutter
with promise of escapeA powerful horn
speaks of piercing the darkness
-reminding her that
she is strong and never was alone

What a beautiful reminder. I think everyone has their own unicorn for when they are in that desolate place……..hopefully

Great subject and poem Vivian — there is a wonderful sense of protection in the unicorn, s/he/it comes between the sufferer and damage, its horn was mythic for healing properties (who knew it was appropriated from the narwhal?), the quintessence of powdered relief. (Poor elephants.) As psychic image of restoration, the unicorn is surely a deep drink of water. All is well, and thanks for that.

Unicorns have long been a favourite of mine. I like the encouragement in your words. I especially like
“Angel wings flutter with promise of escape” Something we all long for at one time or another, and perhaps our own unicorn will come to us when needed, too.

Unicorns are so magical. Your poem brings out the magic and positivity well. ” A powerful horn promises to pierce the darkness” lovely imagery. I’m going to think of it everytime I see my daughter’s unicorn.

I like the unicorn as a good beast.. giving protection, a brave and fierce opponent, but kind to the good.
