A knife makes its way
into the pocket of a boy
There’s trouble in the streetsI wait
A gun makes its way
into the knapsack of another boy
He’s headed for schoolI wait
In a land far way
chemical weapons
obliterate a townYet again, I wait

Izy at Real Toads asks us to write a poem about waiting, but not to tell her what we’re waiting for in the poem

Goodness….not the kind of waiting i enjoy…like visiting a hospital and waiting for the news. Well written and full of suspense.

Scary, and, unfortunately, so much truth in your words. Disasters await, let’s make happiness in between. Well done.

or waiting for a solution – which I’m afraid there isn’t. Even if we get gun regulation, they will find a way and in the meantime all we can do is … wait for the next one.

Effective use of repetition,. Viv, that extends the waiting. These are all events over which we as individuals have no influence – it is frightening and we seem to be waiting for the next sad story in the news.

We all wait for the next time. Sad but true that in this world there is always a “next time”.

Hiya and thanks for posting to my prompt! I really like how you use waiting as a response to a certain event. To me, that made the tension heightened and really told a larger story of those waiting for a response (any response). Well done and viva la!
