He gazed at his account balance
grinning from ear to ear
his money had grown
year upon year
It was so much
it was going to be great
spending it all
to ease his pain
It calmed him so
this wealth he’d amassed
it would fill the emptiness
until he breathed his last

In his world, money is everything, even being at peace in his soul. So very sad.

Clever, surprise of a poem, with that emptiness arising in the last line. A miser has nothing else to do but count his money. This one has a chance to spend it well, but it is doubtful that he will.

He had better watch inflation and the reducing value of the dollar or whatever. There are better things to spend your money on than money! I guess his lifewill still be empty.

I’m not sure money can fill the cracks? Money isn’t love, unless given away.

Amassing money and ‘ things’ is an attempt to fill a personal void , a bottomless pit which no amount will ever fill. Good poem.
