I was born in one place, grew up in another and now live in another. And yet, I’m of- again- another. Where does that leave me? What memories do I dredge up when thinking of my hometown? I’ll tell you- it’s a kaleidoscope of cultures, influences and dreams.
Each place has added to me, rather than diluted my being. I regale my kids with stories of my childhood; each one a potpourri of mystery.
My thoughts and words are flavoured by nuances from each origin. From the depths of my spirit, I never fail to find riches- spilling out as words- spinning yet another tale of my hometowns.

I love the thought of being an amalgamate of hometowns… so many things coming together in one.

‘Kaleidoscope dreams’ —I love that. Changing country and culture is an enriching experience, even if it adds to the load of memories.

Some kids struggle with lots of moves. I think maybe you are somebody who carries their “home” within themselves. I loved this piece.

Yes, I suppose you are like a kaleidoscope when you move around a lot – all those little gems of memories moving around in your head! I grew up in Surrey/South London, moved to Germany when I was 16, to Ireland in my twenties, back to London and then to Norfolk. I often feel like my past never happened and then the memories come back, sometimes one at a time, another time all at once, and then again like your kaleidoscope, Viv, fragmented and colourful. I like that you say each place has added to you and that you share stories of your childhood with your kids. Your haiku sums it up well.

You are fortunate to be able to draw on a variety of places for stories. Children love to listen to you spinning them, I’m sure.

Ah, you and I are on the same wavelength – I too struggle to think which place is home, as I moved among many different places. I like what you say: each one added to you.
