Eli wiped his brow and surveyed the remnants of wood. They would have to wait until tomorrow. Trudging home along the bank of trees, he wondered idly at the newly hewned earth that lined his path. Had someone been digging? He shrugged and returned home to bed.
In the dark of night, deep in the woods, a rumbling began. A fox, foraging for scraps, froze-hackles raised. The trees appeared to lean forward, then suddenly, with an ungodly ripping off earth, the trees stepped back as one!
The fox, now a frightened blur of fur, hurtled out of the woods.
And Eli slept on.
