Would you still love me
If I had no money
If I had no means
Would you still love me
If there was no gain
If all I had to offer
Was my misery and pain
My heart muses
Heavy laden
As a rock

Unfortunately money always come into the picture… sometimes I fear that love is more like making a deal.

That’s the sad part- where money’s concerned – it might as well be a contract.

People tend to focus on the older party as the bad guy forgetting that they, too, need love.

Too true. Though I’m sometimes guilty of that myself. We probably all are.

The eternal question. Interestingly, I’m assuming it’s a man speaking, as that’s the usual dynamic. Maybe not? Would it be different if it was the woman asking the questions? I think the power dynamic would be different.

You’re right, Sarah-it’s the man- the usual dynamic. I think the questions would be the same if it were a woman.😊

Misery and pain can lead to an empathy that money can’t buy.

For some reason I heard the woman’s voice, and it changed the dynamic and thrust. As to can money but love–sometimes–but remember one cannot live on love.

Wonderful rhyme in this. Love me? Love my money? Love my poverty? Sad but true. So many people look at their lovers as what the lover can give them monetarily.

I could feel the poem getting heavier with so much pondering…..and collapsing under the weight of it all. This is wonderful.

Perhaps not the same questions if it was a woman talking! Other dynamics also enter into the mix, don’t they? A worthy read no matter who is speaking.

Love is complicated, isn’t it? I think we need each other for many reasons but real love will sacrifice for the other, not use. (did you mean “If all I (not is) had to offer”?)
