Chèvrefeuille has tasked us with writing a troiku; expanding  each separate line from an original haiku. One is by Chèvrefeuille and the other by Basho.

ancient warriors
between battle and peace
writing haiku

ancient warriors
never giving up the fight
weathered hands make war

between battle and peace
they combat without ceasing
pens, trusty weapons

writing haiku
the only chance of winning
writing peace, not war

falling to the ground
a flower closer to the root
bidding farewell

© Basho

falling to the ground
As seeds fall to give new life
The earth giving birth

a flower closer to the root
knowing that the end is nigh
withers with a sigh

bidding farewell
plant to dust returning
joy for life anew
