A monster in temper
Rearing to unleash in anger
Girding it’s loins with the wind
As skies roar
A coiled spring
Not waiting
Not caring
Growing stronger
A leviathan
Claiming it’s prize

A hurricane does seem immense like a leviathan and as dangerous as one as well.

A scholarly attempt to capture the leviathan force … “not waiting, not caring”. Well done.

Didn’t I read somewhere that one of the reasons the Japanese were so good at horror films was that they’d witnessed the horrors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki? I’m pretty sure. But bear in mind that this was in the very early ’80s, when we dared each other to watch the Saturday afternoon horror. Might just have been Chicago though. Your poem just made me think of that.

You’ve got a great memory- and a detailed one!

Thank you! I blame Steiner School entirely. They made us learn poetry by heart from day one. Plus, I used to do quite a bit of acting. But it freaks people out at times when I remember these details. Half the time I’m not even conscious of doing it. Learned to warn people over time. As in, “I’m not stalking you or a freak. My memory really is like that.”
But there are things I forget, too. The things I do remember are very detailed though. Like a movie in my mind.

Thank you! And not to come across as conceited, but it really is. Here’s another funny thing though. I most likely won’t be able to tell you how many people were in a room, but the ones I noticed I’ll tell you everything about them, including how they acted, their character, and the vibe they face off. I counted it by being literally useless when it comes to practical life.

Oh no, I don’t think so. ( not useless in practical life). It’s a gift…a talent. You need to put it to use. That’s where your destiny is…. I’m convinced. 😊

Well, useless in the sense of compared to those perfect housewives I see here. You know, once in a while I attempt comedy, and I’ll attempt a British voice, and I can’t pull it off. I’ll use some words like chuffed and knackered, but it didn’t work when I lived there, and even my British friends were in stitches. So let me rephrase that. I approach practical matters differently to the average person. I went to see a friend a while back, and he was sweeping in front of the house, so I offered to help. Had no clue what I was doing, compared to him. And he’s barely house broken himself. 🤣 Obviously, I can clean and do laundry, but some people just have that knack.
Another example, I was helping a friend set the lunch tables at her place of work because she was swamped. She was doing the places opposite of me, and try as I might I could not figure out how to set the damn cutlery.
Funny you should say that about it being my destiny. I would like to believe that helping others where cultural understanding and identity are concerned is my destiny, because of the way I grew up. So I’ve been sending out some feelers on Facebook and looking at jobs. Also part of the whole “should I stay or should I go” mindset I’m in. Or rather, I know I want to be able to split my time (more or less) evenly between Helsinki and Finland. So looking into lots of freelance options.

English and German mainly. But also Hungarian and French for beginners these days.
Plus, waiting for some writing stuff to happen. Possibly. And thanks for the encouragement! Means a lot.

Perfect metaphor. Love the movement in your poem (though I might not love it as well in real life). 🙂
